Tips On Choosing an Affiliate Marketing Opportunity - Useful Info
Many people sign up for an affiliate marketing opportunity, place a few ads, and sit back waiting for that first $1,000 or $50,000 to roll in with their name on it. Of course, only disappointment rolls in when they realize that this wasn’t a get-rich plan; it wasn’t even a make-a-few-extra-dollars plan. In some cases they do put the work in, but the commissions still aren’t coming, or tiny amounts are coming few and far between.
There are a number of do’s and don’t’s when it comes to picking your affiliates that can make the difference between a disappointing venture and a profitable one.
Don’t :
Don’t choose an affiliate marketing opportunity just because other people are making money at it. That may sound like the opposite of what you want to do. You want the programs that are making people money, right? Not necessarily. It all depends on the program. If it’s something that intrigues you, that you think you can promote well, then it’s worth considering. But if a program called “Become a Millionaire Selling Futures Online” is the one that every top Internet marketer is drooling over right now, no matter how much money it makes them, if you know nothing about futures or the people who might be interested in this subject, it’ll take a lot of work for you to make a profit from it. And why not spend that time and do that work on something you already know about, and enjoy?
D0 :
Do choose programs that interest you. If you have a passion for something, it shows. Your website will have interesting content because you’re interested and you have knowledge to share. Choose an affiliate marketing opportunity that’s related to a subject that interests you, and you’ll naturally spend more time promoting it, and you’ll have a better chance at success.
Don’t :
Naturally you don’t want to spend a lot of money, especially not in the beginning when you’re not sure of your profits. But free services put ads on the page in the form of sidebars, banners and worst of all, pop-up advertisements. These make your website look cheap and less trustworthy.
DO :
Do purchase a domain name related to your topic. Don’t just buy a domain name called jimsbusiness.com and expect people to flock there. Decide what kind of affiliate marketing opportunity you’re going to promote first, then make sure that’s clear in your domain name.
Do promote a few related products. You can start out with one just to get your feet wet, but then casually add in references and links to a few more merchants offering related products and affiliate programs. This doesn’t just fill your site, it gives you more opportunities to sell.
Follow these do’s and don’t’s and read everything about Internet marketing that you can, and you’ll help yourself succeed with an affiliate marketing opportunity.

Why Affiliate Marketing is a Top Business Model
As an affiliate marketer you basically sell or pre-sell other people’s products or services. You refer leads to affiliate programs, write reviews on your blog about the products or place ads somewhere on the internet that people can click on, get redirected to the sales page, join the program or buy the product. The affiliate marketer does not sell anything directly; he’s just spreading the word about a certain product or service he is affiliated with.
Compared to a product creation process with all of its time and money consuming requirements, affiliate marketing is an absolute no-brainer. An affiliate marketer has no production costs to cover, no employees to pay at the end of the month, no inventory to take care of, no order processing or shipping.
The Low Down
As an affiliate you are not a sales person. You are only introducing potential buyers to the companies who have something to sell. The people you refer buy, join or they don’t. The affiliate gets the commission when a sale is made. Someone who has spent some substantial time marketing on the internet or maintaining a website has probably downloaded and read quite a few free reports and e-books on affiliate marketing. These reports talk about how to make money with affiliate marketing and each one of them has its own little approach but all of them mostly agree that it’s better to set up your own website or blog, search for a good converting product, drive traffic to that product sales page, get lots of back links to your site to rank high on the search engines, submit your website to directories, engage in web.2.0 or social marketing and so on…
Do Work
This is a whole lot of work. Additionally it takes time to learn how to do these things if you are fairly new to marketing or the internet. At the same time your mailbox is overflowing with information and promotional emails and staying focused on a few important tasks sometimes compares to trying to swim a river upstream. Good organization and persistence in the first months, preferably having a personal mentor to talk to or exchange emails with, are the main factors which determine success or failure. Even then some people expect to just be told what to do without doing much work. I will be the first to tell you that, NO ONE will tell you EXACTLY what they are doing to bring in the money. They might give you tips or direct you to a site with training but they will not say how they do it.
For Me
Technically speaking affiliate marketing is a business model for people like you and me. The learning curve may be different for different people. Are you open minded, creative and determined to succeed also in the long run? Then you will certainly hit gold. The question is: how long does it take? Nobody will be able to answer this question for you. You are the boss and the employee, the writer and the virtual assistant (like me!). The responsibility is totally yours - this is the beauty of work at home programs. The process of setting up an affiliate business in order to make a substantial profit to live on depends not only on the technical details I mentioned above. Far greater responsibility comes into play when things don’t work out the way they are supposed to. People who know themselves and have gone through some personal development courses to learn about the mindset of an entrepreneur have greater chances to win the affiliate game.
Why do so many people start online and give up after a couple of months?
Have you ever thought about it?
In my opinion affiliate marketing is easy to learn and practice. But dealing with failure, rejection, negative expectations, however, a competitive market, debt or financial problems, health issues just to name a few, is far more complicated and distracting. In Times of national recession people have a tendency to search for more security. Will they find financial security as an affiliate marketer online - they will have to go through the process to find out.
For a while now I’ve been signing on with safe list (checkout my next post in a day or two) and Traffic Exchanged every chance I get! PLEASE don’t do this. My main reasons for this is:
Now I get about 300-400 e-mails a day, which I had to setup a rule for to delete as they are downloaded.
You will spend your whole clicking on links, browsing websites to gain credits, so that you can advertise your own site or banner. Again not worth it.
What I have found is 3 of the best ones that work for me and I would encourage you to use them as well. It takes only about 15 mins a day of surfing to gain credits and that is it. Here they are:
Advertising Know How
TrafficSwarm
InstantBuzz
These three are unique advertising methods. First off, they don’t cost you any money. You can sign up for free. So here is what makes them so unique and best to use.
Advertising Know How:
With advertising know how you can surf for credits as per usual with any other Traffic Exchanges, but if you surf 50 sites a day for 5 days out of 7, Advertising Know How will add one free referral to your account. This means within a month you can have at least 4 referrals in your down line, helping you to surf for credits to advertise. Not mentioning that if they upgrade to the pro account you will earn commissions.
Secondly, Advertising Know How have an option to add banners for your site, to your account. You can then convert your surfing credits to banner “impressions”. These impressions is used to show your banner to people that are surfing. I use this option exclusively. Every 10 credits will earn you 1 000 impressions. Very nice right?
TrafficSwarm:
With TrafficSwarm you also check out sites to get credits, but what sets them apart is the fact that they give you an “startup url”. This you can put in your browsers startup page and everything you open your browser, the browser goes directly to that “startup page” and you earn 1 credit. Now this might not sound like a lot, but I’ve tested this. For me this brings in 50 plus credits a day, without surfing any additional adds. Then if you refer people to there site and they sign up, you will again earn credits for your referral’s views of sites, plus commissions if they sign up for the pro membership.
InstantBuzz:
With InstantBuzz it is even easier to earn credits for advertising. You simply install a little program that becomes an toolbar on your browser. Every time you visit a site, it will show you a new advertisement and that counts as 1 credit. Within writing this blog I’ve earn 130 odd credits. Simple as that, setup your account here, setup you ads in your account profiles, install the toolbar and that is it. Check in once a day to see your ads stats.
PS: your antivirus program might see this as “Adware”, which of course it is, seeing as it does show you ads. It DOES NOT contain any viruses or spyware. When prompted, simply add this program to you antivirus exception list.
Now just to make it clear, none of the people you refer needs to sign up pro membership with any of these kind of sites, just the extra credits you earn will be benefit enough!
These 3 sites have helped me a lot, but believe you me, it took a while to get to these three. Use them, they are free and will generate a lot of traffic to your site.
Till we meet again
